Youth Angle
About Youth Angle
Youth Angle is our youth refuge at Umina which provides temporary accommodation and support to six homeless young women or men aged between 16 and 20.
Youth Angle maintains a relaxed and caring household environment which places emphasis on developing all the skills required to sustain independent living.
Residents work together in sharing household responsibilities, planning meals, grocery shopping, planning activities, including a roster of chores and weekend outings.
Youth Angle's primary focus for each resident is the transition into independent living in one of our outreach houses, where residents are assisted to find independent housing and continue to receive guidance and support. Family reconciliation remains an important focus where possible.
Entry Process
Youth seeking accommodation will be interviewed by a staff member who will explain how the program works. Residents will be required to:
>> Pay a weekly board
>> Accept support from staff to move towards independent housing or family reconciliation
>> Participate in the budgeting support program
>> Participate in weekly 'house meetings' (In the refuge)
>> Participate in the household chore program including cooking and cleaning
>> Abide by all guidelines including curfews
>> Refrain from taking alcohol and drugs
>> Participate in schooling, full-time training or employment
If Youth Angle has no vacancies, or the applicant is unsuitable because of other reasons (e.g. behavioural issues, unmanageable mental illness, drug/alcohol affected), staff will make every effort to find an alternative housing option.
Funding
Youth Angle is funded by Community Services as a Specialist Homelessness Service.
