About the Donnison Street Community Centre
The Community Centre provides free meals and support services to help homeless, vulnerable, financially disadvantaged and socially isolated community members.
The Centre is open to anyone needing assistance... no questions asked.
The Donnison Street Community Centre receives no Government Funding. It only operates thanks to corporate support, fundraising activities, donations and an amazing volunteer workforce.
Operating since September 2002, the Community Centre is open 7 days a week and provides over 1,100 free meals every week. Each volunteer meal provider group contributes the ingredients, prepares and serves their meal.
Our guests range from those who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness due to a range of factors such as loss of employment, family breakdown, mental health issues, drug and alcohol issues ...to those who are socially isolated and disconnected from their family and community.
Other services available at the Community Centre
The Donnison Street Community Centre also provides a range of support services, which are available Monday to Friday 11am-1pm (excluding public holidays).
>> Free Legal Advice every Monday by Central Coast Community Legal Centre.
>> Centrelink Community Engagement Officer available fortnightly on Tuesdays.
>> No Interest Loans (NILS) for people on low incomes to purchase essential household items.
>> Energy Vouchers (EAPA) to help people having difficulty paying gas and/or electricity bills.
>> Pharmaceutical Assistance to fill prescriptions for clients experiencing financial hardship.
>> Food Hampers for those in need made up from donated food items.
>> Rentstart Kiosk provides a link to Housing NSW via fax and phone for Rent Assistance.
>> Shower and Laundry Facilities are available every day. Fresh towels, toiletries and laundry powder are also provided.
>> Free shampoo and haircuts are available every Tuesday
The Donnison Street Community Centre has an amazing unpaid workforce of volunteers who generously and regularly give up their time to prepare and serve meals. Our volunteers range in age from 15 to 87 years old, and are much appreciated by our guests.
